Kitchen Remodeling Tips From Our Local Contractors in Houston, TX
A common look in many homes in Houston, TX 77057 is toward task lighting. In a kitchen, task lighting is the most important thing to get right; you don't want to be chopping vegetables and washing dishes in semi-darkness. It is easy to assume that a single 100-watt bulb hung in the center of the room will give you all the light you need, but unless you plan to do all your kitchen job right beneath it, you are bound to find yourself often working in the shadows.
Countertops, stoves, and sinks - the areas where you need most light - are, as a rule, at the edges of the kitchen, and all need targeted lighting. Invest in a light fixture with movable halogen spots, for example, which can be pointed in whichever direction you like; or - even better - use a wire track that runs from one end of the ceiling (as in the example photo above) to the other and allows you to place as many spots are you need wherever you need them. Don't automatically put it in the center of the ceiling. For more specific task lighting, think about installing spots or strips under wall-mounted cabinets. This is a good way of bringing even, glare-and shadow-free light to the countertop and will also add interest to a wall of kitchen cabinets, particularly at night.
If you are not into modern lighting systems, there are other ways of giving yourself enough light to work with. You could supplement a central chandelier with small wall lights or hang a series of pendants in a row across the ceiling. Tucking strip lighting underneath cabinets is also a good way to provide essential kitchen illumination without obtrusive modern fixtures.
