Lakeway, TX and Lake Travis Kitchen Remodeling Tips - DIY Remodeler Ideas and Room Additions - Cork and Rubber Kitchen and Tile Flooring Options
Lakeway homeowners have a variety of flooring options to choose from during a kitchen remodeling project. Many kitchen remodelers in the Lakeway area can suggest everything from laminate and tile flooring. However, we choose to spotlight cork, rubber and custom laminate kitchen flooring for some of our latest remodeling projects.
Cork: For floors that are warm to the touch and feel slightly springy underfoot, cork is hard to beat. Though strong enough for day-to-day foot traffic in kitchens in the Lake Travis area, cork flooring is so resilient and soft that you can drop a wine-glass and it might not break. Made from the living bark of Mediterranean cork oaks, this material is first shredded and then processed into thin square-foot tiles or thicker planks that measure 1 by 3 feet. Various looks, from light and evenly shaded to mottled and dark, are available. Cork is easily installed with a special adhesive, and it can be finished or sealed in several ways; with an old-fashioned wax and oil mixture, with brushed or rolled-on polyurethane, or with an acrylic coating that is less durable than urethane but is easily applied by mop. Cork is more susceptible to damage than other types of flooring, but replacing tiles is easy. Installed prices range from around $5 to $10 in most cases.
Rubber kitchen flooring: This is an increasingly popular choice of flooring in Lakeway kitchens and we have worked with a number of remodelers who love installing rubber floors. It is similar to vinyl in qualities, installation and price, but it is used less frequently and comes in limited styles and patterns. Available in sheets or tiles, it is commonly found in commercial applications because of its high durability and resistance to moisture and damage from chemicals. Styles with raised nubs or patterns that resemble diamond-plate metal are more skid-resistant than smooth types.
Finally, Consider Laminate Kitchen Flooring If You Own a Lakeway Area Home
This is another great look in kitchens in the Lake Travis area. Laminates can do a convincing job of imitating wood, stone, and tile and are far less expensive. Prices run from $3 to $6 per square foot installed. This composite sandwich of paper, wood, and plastic offer decent durability and an incredible variety of appearances. While a uniform wood look is most popular, planks and tiles of different styles and colors can be mixed and matched in limitless patterns. Formed into thin tongue-and-groove planks or square tiles, laminates are easily glued or snapped together to create a floor that is resistant to scratches, stains and wear that comes before a kitchen remodeler provides a quote. While laminates and high-and-medium density fiberboard cores are highly water resistant when properly installed with tight-fitting seams, less costly products or poor installation can produce floors that are susceptible to damage by spills and moisture. We love laminate flooring as an addition to any Lakeway kitchen or during a general room addition or construction/remodel project. A type of floating floor, laminates are typically installed over a thin pad of closed-cell foam plastic that both cushions the flooring and provides a moisture barrier.
