A switch is the mechanism used to open and close an electric circuit. Switches may be single throw or double throw. A single throw switch opens or closes a single wire in a circuit. A double throw switch can be placed in any one of these positions:
- To open a circuit
- To connect the single wire to the other wire in the box.
- To connect a single wire to either of the two other ires in the box.
Switches controlling general lighting or appliance are connected to the hot line of a circuit; the ground circuit is never opened. The switch may be single-throw single-pole type if only one switch is to control one or more fixtures or outlets. Dimmer switches in a kitchen vary the voltage supplied to a fixture. Semi-custom cabinets are manufactured, but they come with hundreds of standard options such s wood species, colors and finishes, and a wide variety of fixtures and matching moldings. Many manufacturers will even allow you to ask for slight modifications if you can't find exactly what you want. Quality semi-custom cabinets cost more than stock cabinets - often at least double - and delivery can take up to eight weeks in some cases. However, you'll get essentially custom quality, making the trade off worth it.
